What about a Meet the Press investigation of Fannie Mae's executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary from February 2006 until September 2008. It's time to hold people accountable.

David Gregory is a jerk. It won't take him long to ruin this once formidable news program. What a boneheaded choice by the decision-makers at NBC.

I agree!  David Gregory is a huge disappointment.  No wonder NBC is doing so poorly with these kinds of decisions.   I still can't get the picture of him dancing with Karl Rove out of my mind, ugh!   We won't waste our time watching MTP, Tom Brokaw was bad enough.

Until just now, I held out hope that NBC would take a serious look at the ratings for Race and 1600 and see that they are awful shows that cannot get guests who are not already on NBC's payroll, and that Gregory is a terrible (and unlikeable) moderator. I have been watching MTP for most of my adult life, but no more. I agree with the other writers, I may watch it if there is a particularly interesting guest (wonder how long it will take for Gregory to deplete MTP's goodwill on that score), but otherwise it will be This Week or Face the Nation. Watch the ratings carefully, execs. There's still time to correct your mistake.

I totally agree with YOU!!!! It's crazy!! If Thats the case they could have chose Kelly o'donnel or evebn Matt Lauer or Lester Holt..  I had heard at one point they were thinking about Gwen Ifill;     But Pete williams, Chuck Todd, Ann Curry Look give it to Ted Koppel!   LOL!!!!

Well, the Sunday morning pundit parties were dieing a slow death, we all knew that.  This move by NBC to install David Gregory will only serve to speed up the anticipated and welcomed death of these blathering idiots.

The selection of David Gregory is a fantastic, perfect choice. His credentials are beyond reproach. His willingness and ability to ask "the question", despite adverse pressure from the right or left make him one of the most poignant unbiased journalists in television today. The show will continue with perhaps an even greater audience than it had before.

5 STARS!!!!!

Excellent choice!!!!!

This is a great choice for Meet The Press.  Gregory has proven himself perfectly capable of this and seems to have the passion for the stewardship of that chair.  He had my vote in the summer.  A succession to Tim Russert and the others who have sat there can't be easy and it's likely a bit intimidating, but I can see Gregory taking it on with both the pride and humility deserved.

It was reported that David Gregory's wife was an executive secretary at Fannie Mae. What does that imply?

He couldn't be any worse than Brokaw. He really needs to retire, he is too old and out of touch. He was so biased during the election it was pathetic. I thought he was going to start drooling while talking to Obama this morning. He didn't dig up little out of context clips like he did to everyone else during the election for the express purpose of putting them on the spot because they didn't agree with him. Hope this guy can address the issues without being so obviously opinionated.

    What does that imply?

Not anything to me. Washington is a small town and most of the jobs are either with a government entity or having government as a customer. He's got no teeth and not because he's owned, he's doesn't seem like a rock the boat kind of guy and that's what many of us want, Rock On 'Em!

I don't understand the hostility regarding David Gregory's taking over Meet the Press.  Of course he isn't Tim Russert.  No one is going to fill that vacancy in exactly the same way.  It just can't be done.  But, David Gregory is a respected, fair and intelligent journalist.  I'll admit that the choice suprised me a bit, but once I thought about it, it makes a lot of sense.

And maybe this will keep him off of Today.  It PAINS me to a real journalist standing there in the morning listening to and contributing to that innane blather.

David Gregory was Bush's favorite lapdog the past 8 years... it was disgusting how Gregory kissed up to Bush at press conferences. No surprise Jeff Immelt, a far right Republican, would be sure that somebody like Gregory would take the reigns. I've suffered through three of Gregory's shows now and won't waste my time on Meet the Press anymore. Too bad... under Tim Russert the show was some of the finest television has to offer... under this guy its just biased political business as usual.

David Gregory - not cool at all.  I will only watch if there is a guest I want to hear from, but not every Sunday like I did w/Russert.  David Gregory - no way.

I used to watch Tim Russert faithfully and no one can ever replace him.  David is dull and only an interesting guest would make him worth watching for me. Even then its only a maybe. They should just retire the show in honor of Tim.

David Gregory is "biased"...a gross understatement. I hope he takes a course in journalism to learn that it isn't his job to give his personal opinions, but to be even- handed, and tough on all. I join the overgold in doing laundry during that hour.

Simply can't believe that NBC is that insensitive to the legacy of "Meet the Press".

Unfortunately another poor choice by NBC.  This guy is a loudmouthed "I want to make headlines" reporter, whose questions far too often appear to be tainted by his need to stir things up rather than a honest, fair assessment or challenge.  He may be experienced in being a political reporting/questioning pain in the ---, but he is wayyyyyyyyyy too inexperienced or saavy to make many to tune in regularly.  Ron Reagan, Olbermann, all in the same category as listen to my quotes knowitall's, too bad for Meet the Press, I am young and enjoyed this show very much because of the host.  Way to go NBC, ruin a good thing once again just because you need some shock value to attract viewers--which I predict WILL NOT HAPPEN.....too bad.

I was just saying to my spouse over a month ago that Tom Brokaw, while well respected, is not a good fit for Meet the Press.  As an anchor, his opinions were imbedded in the news and not as easily detected.  While at MTP, it seems he has shown that he leans more just to the right of left (not as central but just to the right).  He has backed down when asking questions.  Even Tim Russert would always have a come back.  I suggested over a month ago that David Gregory, who seems less newsly groomed and much more of a common man's guy, would be a better fit.

          Maybe I should work there.

          Satisfied.

David Gregory is about the worst pick NBC could have made. (Tow Brokaw must have had an immense amount of influence with this pick.)  Gregory is beyond dull.  His show at 6:00pm is the worst in the entire lineup.  I only watch when he is not moderating.  As most people are saying -- bye-bye MTP.  No one will ever match Tim R., but Gregory SECOND to least; Joe Scarabough being least!

My sentimets & my actions exactly.  Too bad NBC isn't on the same page we are!

Joe, my ummm.... shall we say namesake, is a republican on a liberal news group.  What can one say?  Fair and balanced?  I like Joe, obviously; but his neofast views sometimes disturb Joe.  So much so tht MB has to bring Joe to a fair and balanced presentation on the issue(s).

No Gregory is NOT the right choice here.  And MTP I predict will not last for another year, sad to say.  All NBC has to do is ask themselves.  What if Gregory was with Fixed News?  Could he, would he fit there?  And if he could; if he would:  Then he wasn't, isn't, and never would be or should be, or have been; considered for MTP!

          Respectfully:

          Mourning Joe:

I hope that MTP continues to be a successful and respected show.  I believe that it might be in spite of Mr. Gregory's choice to replace the tough and lovable and gregarious Tim Russert.  MSNBC is my favorite cable news channel but I am not with you on this choice.

You must be kidding!  Gregory?  Give me a break!  Mitchell...much more qualified, Ifill...fantastic!  Brokaw...the best.  Why not at least keep Brokaw in there until a much better replacement, like Chuck Todd (hand picked by Russert) could have been groomed?  Gregory is the bum who professed that he should have never gone on the Imus show.  This after the comments that lead to Imus' firing and Gregory had been a substitute guest host previously.  He is nothing but opportunistic, loud-mouthed and disloyal.  How does substituting on the Today Show qualify for a lead role on what was, until this announcement, the gold standard for politics?   I can hear it now:  "Our issues this week:    Cooking with David...A True Recipe for Disaster...sponsored by Smucker's".

obviously nbc has no one monitoring the blogs or they would have understood that most political junkies find gregory shallow, opportunistic, and bland.  as much as i will not forget abc's debate with hillary and barack ... that is where i will now spend my sunday mornings, watching george.

mtp does not appeal to the masses .. it appeals to politicians and political junkies. well, you'll have the pols ... for awhile longer, until, that is, they realize they are speaking to david and the camera crew and not much else.

the doyens and arbiters at nbc, of all things political, are terribly out of touch.

Wow, way to think outside the box NBC. Another white man to replace the white man who replaced the other white man. Could you have picked a more boring choice? David Gregory? You may have well have said David Broder or David Brinkley or David Gergen. How could you overlook Gwen Ifill? Hell, even Tim Russert thought she was good enough to replace him. But no, I guess it is best to go with vanilla. And by vanilla, I mean the unoffensive white guy. Pathetic. The only place where the Bradley effect still has an effect is obviously TV news.

Am afraid Gregory will lean to the right, as Brokaw did and we will not get unbiased reporting. We do not need more republican supporters hosting what could be important shows. We already have too many of them. The media/AP have not shown integrity in their reporting these last several months, trying to push their agenda down our throats.

They have lost trust and respect from the American people, but thankfully, their bias did not work with this election. What our country does not need is a continuation of pushing what has almost destroyed us.

OMG! Noooooooooooo! I agree with most everyone here! Andrea Mitchell would have been the most in the center non biased choice if you ask me. MSNBC just disappointed me greatly with the David Gregory choice for MTP. I loved MTP and was very saddened from the loss of Tim Russert. Then I was not thrilled with the Brokaw's lean ing heavy to the right line of questions. Now this! They just lost another viewer with me. Gregory is only into twisting and making headlines. Boo to you MSNBC.

I will never again watch "Meet the Press".  The only announcers worse than David Gregory are those fools Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews.  All three have been educated beyond their intelligence, and they couldn't report the truth if their life depended on it.  Keith Olbermann is especially odious because he is a sports caster in wolf's clothing.  He is more stupid than the jocks he talks about.

I have watched Meet the Press since the first show.  Never have I been more disappointed then when George Stephanopoulos was picked to head up This week on ABC.  David Gregory is the worse....what were you thinking?  I for the first time in my life will quit watching "Meet the Press" due to this choice.  I watch this morning when Tom made the announcement and I thought "you have got to be kidding".  On the other side  not much out there to choose from, therefore what does this say about the reporting world.  Hopefully someday Luke Russert can take over where his dad left off.  You see that charm, likeable traits coming through this young man.  Until then good luck with this choice and I am sure the ratings will drop and if ABC with that other idiot George beats "ole David" in the ratings maybe you people will get your head of the sand and pick someone from a very short list of good reporters.

I love him, good choice, I remember the first time I fell in love with him as a news correspondent, it was when Gregory asked White House press secretary Tony Snow: "Can this report be seen as anything other than a rejection of this president's handling of the war?" We need someone on Meet the Press who is not afraid to ask the tough questions, just like Tim Russert diid. May God bless you and give you the strength that is necessary to ask the unadulterated questions that the American people want ask!

I have watched Meet the Press since day one and I have never been more disappointed other than day ABC announced "George" would head "This Week with #1 Idiot". Now we have the worse of the worse! Meet the Press was the #1 show due to Tim's charm, wit, personality that uplifted your spirit if down. David is so depressing my cat may kill itself. I cannot believe you guys made this move to destroy this show. Luke Russert could have brought the charm and wit better than your choice. I will not be signing on to Meet the Press or will I watch that other idiot "George" . Therefore Sunday morning talk shows have gone to the level of the rest of other talk shows which are "lame duck". (sound familiar)
